Taking a Trip to a National Park? Travel Insurance Can Help.

National parks receive millions of visitors a year, and for a good reason. Whether domestic or abroad, national parks have some of the most beautiful scenery a country has to offer, as well as acting as a host to a number of different outdoor activities. When taking a trip to a national park, it’s important to take measures to ensure your safety, and travel insurance may be a way to help.

Adventure Sports Insurance

Many of those who travel to national parks do so to spend time in the great outdoors, and this can include taking part in adventure sports. Adventure sports inherently come with a certain amount of risk, which you may want covered in the case of an accident or injury. While Arch RoamRight plans offer coverage for a variety of outdoor activities without additional upgrades, there are some that require an upgrade.

Adventure sports travel insurance coverage, also referred to as hazardous sports or extreme sports coverage, is an optional upgrade to some Arch RoamRight plans that provides coverage for things that can happen while participating in hazardous sports.

Under Arch RoamRight plans, these sports are considered adventure sports and require the Hazardous Sports Upgrade in order to be eligible for coverage for claimable events that happen while participating in these activities:*

  • Bungee jumping
  • Caving/Spelunking
  • Hang gliding
  • Ice climbing (where ropes or guides are normally used, up to 15,000 feet)
  • Mountaineering (where ropes or guides are normally used, up to 15,000 feet)
  • Parachuting
  • Paragliding/Parapenting
  • Rock climbing (where ropes or guides are normally used, up to 15,000 feet)
  • SCUBA diving (involving underwater breathing apparatus – OR – if PADI or NAUI certified, to depths below 130 feet)
  • Skydiving

*This list is not inclusive. If you do not see the sport you are planning to participate in listed please contact our customer service team at 855-762-6744.

What does the adventure sports upgrade cover?

The Hazardous Sports Upgrade provides coverage if you become injured while participating in any of the sports listed above. Benefits for treatment and medical evacuation can be covered up to the maximum benefit shown under the Emergency Accident Medical Expense coverage.

Beyond providing coverage in the event of a medical emergency, all Arch RoamRight insureds have access to a 24/7 emergency assistance line which puts trained emergency travel assistance providers at your fingertips. They also can help you find quality, local medical care and provide translation services if needed.

Arch RoamRight’s Weather Coverage

Having a national park as your destination can leave your plans vulnerable to inclement weather. Arch RoamRight’s policies can cover weather-related natural disasters that make destinations uninhabitable or require evacuations, such as blizzards, wildfires, earthquakes, and others. Keep in mind that while the conditions for your trip may not be ideal, such as a week-long forecast of cloudy skies and rain on your tropical vacation, coverages may not go into effect unless certain conditions are met. Arch RoamRight’s trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage will go into effect when:

  • Weather causes a complete cessation of services of Your Common Carrier for at least 24 consecutive hours.
  • A Natural Disaster at the site of Your destination renders accommodations uninhabitable.
  • Local authorities in your destination order a mandatory evacuation due to a hurricane or other Natural Disaster. You must have 50% of Your total Trip length or less remaining on the Trip, at the time the mandatory evacuation ends, in order to cancel the Trip.
  • Your arrival on your trip is delayed and you lose 50% or more of the scheduled trip duration due to a reason covered under the trip delay benefit, such as a delay of your Common Carrier due to weather.

Trip Cancellation

Having to cancel your trip when you have activities planned and accommodations or flights booked, cancelling them can put you in a tough spot. Should an occasion arise that prevents you from traveling to or remaining in your destination, travel insurance may be able to provide a Trip Cancellation benefit. The Trip Cancellation benefit offered in Arch RoamRight’s travel insurance plans can help protect nonrefundable payments that you plan to make on your trip, such as hotels, tours, and packages.

Some limitations apply when filing a claim for trip cancellation insurance. However, our Cancel for Any Reason upgrade allows you to make a cancellation insurance claim for any and all reasons.
