5 Things To Do In Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya has many activities for travelers - from the beach and snorkeling to spas and historical ruins.

Even though the Riviera Maya might be known for its large all-inclusive resorts, you will also find small luxury boutique hotels, fine dining restaurants and plenty of things to do.

1. Snorkeling

The Riviera Maya is one of Mexico`s top destinations to go snorkeling. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, also called the Great Maya Reef, stretches over 600 miles (1000 km) along the coast of Yucatán Peninsula down to Belize. The crystal clear water at the Riviera Maya allows you to discover the fascinating underwater world which is home to different species of marine life including colorful fish, turtles and many more.

2. Mayan Spa Experience

Get pampered in paradise and have a real Mayan spa experience to cleanse your body and spirit. A ritual will remove bad vibes and the use of Copal will prepare your spirit for new beginnings. Once your body is cleansed, detoxified and purified, it is ready to relax. Enjoy all of this in a beautiful outdoor cabin, while birds are singing in the background and water gently flows making all your worries disappear.

3. Visit Tulum

The Tulum Ruins are probably the most famous attraction at the Riviera Maya and even though it can be very touristy, it is still worth seeing. Tulum is a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city with ruins situated on 39 ft (12 meter) tall cliffs, along the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea. It`s a remarkable sight because of its setting next to the turquoise colored sea.

4. Brave the steps at Coba

Want to see more ruins? Why not head towards Coba, located about 27 miles (44 km) from Tulum. Here you`ll find the tallest pyramid on the Yucatán Peninsula, Nohoch Mul. If you`re brave enough to make the steep climb you will be rewarded with a spectacular view looking over the jungle. You can either walk around the jungle that surrounds the ruins or you can rent a bike or hire a bike with driver to pedal you around.

5. Hit the Beach

Let`s be honest, there might be a lot to do at the Riviera Maya, but a day at the beach should be one of your activities. The white powdery beach combined with the emerald blue water is so inviting to go for a swim or just sit back and relax. Enjoy a picnic lunch or dinner at sunset to finish a perfect day.

What`s your favorite activity at the Riviera Maya?
