Three Great Walking Tours in Italy

Trevi Fountain is a fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, Italy, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Pietro Bracci.

You arrived in bella Italia and you’re wondering where to start. With so many amazing things to do and see, it is hard to go wrong. If you’re looking for some advice on great walking tours in Italy, here are three great tours to give your travel itinerary a kick-start.

Rome Highlights

One thing people don’t realize is how small the center of Rome is; an afternoon is more than enough time for a person to visit many of the Rome highlights. If you don’t mind wandering the streets of Rome for a few hours, you can easily see Circus Maximus, the outside of the Roman Forum, the outside of the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon. While out and about, take advantage of the public water fountains and stop for a gelato!

Hiking in Cinque Terre

Located on the northwestern coast of Italy, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to some of the most stunning seacoast villages in the world. Only reachable by boat, train, and hiking, this tourist spot is incredibly popular among people looking for a scenic hike. Comprised of a chain of 5 separate villages, a €5 pass will allow you to hike the trails between them all. Make sure to check the status of the trails daily as they are prone to landslides and can close at any time.

Lake Como

Found in the middle of the Italian Lake District, this gorgeous location will take your breath away. The scenic lake destination overlooks the Alps, inspiring many scriptwriters and artists alike. One of the most popular walks takes you from Colonno to Cadenabbia via a 10.5km hike through gardens, villages, old Italian architecture, and some of the best views in the country. Get to know the country living side of Italy on this 3.5-hour walk!

What are some of your favorite walking tours in Italy? What do you think should not be missed?
