Things To Do In Edinburgh

Check out these options for activities when you visit Edinburgh, Scotland.

Edinburgh Castle

Probably the most visited attraction in the city and definitely worth seeing. You can admire it from a distance, but you might want to consider a visit inside the walls. You`ll discover the Crown Jewels, have a moment of silence inside St Margaret`s Chapel, admire the huge collection of weapons at the Great Hall and much more.

The Real Mary King`s Close

The Real Mary King`s Close is a labyrinth of underground streets and spaces. In the 1600`s Mary King`s Close was at the heart of Edinburgh. Together with a guide, who will take you on a tour through the closes, you will learn more about what it was like living back in the day when people tried to survive the plague and poverty.

Camera Obscura

See Edinburgh from a different point of view, take in the city’s skyline and have a front row seat at the best viewing point of the city. Camera Obscura is an interactive place for people of all ages. There`s plenty of things to do on your own but make sure to attend the show that teaches you more about the history of Edinburgh in a fun way.

Scotch Whiskey Experience

You can`t come to Scotland without tasting their whiskey and what better place to go to than the Scotch Whiskey Experience. Here you`ll learn more about the differences between single malt and blended malt and how whiskey is produced. You`ll be able to enjoy a tasting while admiring the World`s Largest Collection of Scotch Whiskey.

Eat Haggis

Haggis is a traditional Scottish dish and even considered the national dish of Scotland. It is made out of savory pudding containing sheep`s heart, liver and lungs; minced with onion, oatmeal and spices packed into a sheep`s stomach and boiled. If this is not your cup of tea, why don`t you try the Fried Mars Bar which originated in chip shops in Scotland.

Attend a Festival

Edinburgh is the city of festivals. It starts at the beginning of the year with Hogmanay and continues all through the year with Edinburgh`s Festival Fringe, world`s largest art festival; International Film and Book festivals; summer festivals like the Jazz and Blues Festival and many more. It`s a great way to combine a city visit and attend a big event. Check here for events.

These are just a few of the many things you can do in Edinburgh, not to mention it`s a great base for daytrips or exploring more of Scotland.
