5 Steps To The Perfect Toronto Getaway

Toronto Canada Content

Toronto is a vibrant city with plenty of sightseeing options, delicious food and shopping opportunities. Here are 5 things you shouldn't miss out on during your visit.

Go up the CN Tower

This is probably the most famous attraction of Toronto. The Canada's National Tower defines the Toronto skyline and is a great way to see the city from above and there are several options on how best to experience the landmark. You can either visit the top to take in the spectacular views or you can opt to combine it with a meal, as you can lunch or dine at CN Tower’s 360 Restaurant. While enjoying a delightful dish, you'll be able to admire Toronto from every angle as the restaurant revolves. Want something more adventurous? Then this option might be for you: the EdgeWalk. The Edgewalk is the world's highest full circle hands-free walk on a 5 ft (1.5m) wide ledge encircling the top of the Tower's main pad.

Get a cultural fix

Toronto has a lot to offer when it comes to art, exhibitions, performances, galleries and museums. For example, every September Toronto is home to the International Film Festival, TIFF. There's the ROM, Royal Ontario Museum, which is Canada's largest museum of world culture and natural history, and also one of the largest museums in North America. Even if you don't have time to go inside, make sure you see the building from the outside as they have combined modern and classic design, making it into an architectural masterpiece.  Besides the ROM, there`s the AGO, Art Gallery of Ontario, the Bata Museum, a unique shoe museum of 4 floors telling you all about shoes, and many more museums in and around town.

Relax in the city

If you want to find a spot to relax on a sunny day, do as the locals and go for a walk or have a picnic at Trinity Bellwoods Park. Another lovely place to explore is the Distillery District, a cobblestone village and a former whiskey distillery. This picturesque part of the city with numerous restaurants and quaint little shops will not disappoint you. Make sure to stop at SOMA if you're a chocolate lover as this is an artisan chocolate maker who creates chocolates using cacao beans from plantations all over the world.

Go on a shopping spree

Toronto is a shopaholic’s paradise! Shopping in Toronto comes in all sizes, from tiny boutiques, vintage shops to large malls. That's one of the many reasons people visit Toronto–to go on a shopping spree. Kensington Market is a fun and quirky place mostly for vintage shopping. Make sure to also stop at West Queen West for lovely boutiques such as Cabaret, Preloved and Green Shag, which specializes in men`s tailor made shirts and suits. If you prefer designer boutiques like Pink Tartan, then head down to Yorkville, an upscale shopping district. And if you still haven't had enough of all the Toronto shopping, there is the Eaton Centre, located downtown, stretched over two city blocks and housing more than 230 shops.

Most essential experience: wander!

Take a map in hand (or not) and go explore. Visit the Downtown Yonge area located along Yonge Street where you will find Toronto's very own ‘Times Square’, Dundas Square. Or wander along the oldest area around St. Lawrence and have a bite to eat at St. Lawrence Market, named the world's best food market by National Geographic. At night discover the Entertainment District with nightclubs, restaurants and live theater.

What's your favorite thing to do in Toronto?
