Traveling with a new baby is pretty intimidating at first, but it shouldn't stop you from getting out there. Yes, travel may be more challenging now, but starting to vacation as a family early on will not only provide great memories, it will help your kid learn to be a better traveler. The more you travel as a family the more relaxed you will feel going forward.
You can take your kids anywhere, but for the first trip you may want to start simple. Don't try to do or see too much the first time around, just focus on being together in a new setting and watching your baby learn about the world.
A beach vacation is the perfect trip for a new family. After all, what's more relaxing than the beach? Although baby might be too young to truly appreciate the waves and water, you can still get cute snapshots of them playing in the sand while you soak up the sun and sea air.
San Diego is a great pick because not only does it have some of the most beautiful beaches in America, it's a really cool place to explore off the sand as well. When the sun gets to be too much, you can head into town to grab some fish tacos and a local microbrew. Or check out the San Diego Zoo, one of the nation's very best zoos, which is fun for kids and grown ups alike.
Maybe a low-key city break sounds more relaxing than battling sun and sand. You can sleep in, drink local coffee and explore the city at your leisure.
Nowhere is more slouchy cool and laid back than Portland, Oregon. Sure, late night drinks are out, as are fancy or super crowded restaurants. But there are always happy hours, and Portland has no shortage of food trucks and relaxed eateries with food from around the world. You can also check out the Saturday Market, a huge outdoor fair with tons of unique local vendors.
If you fall into the "go big or go home" school of travel, why not start early and take your baby to the Big Apple? Don't be intimidated, babies visit (and even live in!) New York every day. New York is loud and frenetic and exciting, but your baby can watch the world go by from the comfort and safety of a stroller while you wheel around town.
You won't be able to take advantage of the nightlife or catch a Broadway show, but you can still enjoy eating out, sightseeing and experiencing one of the greatest cities in the world. There are plenty of opportunities for people watching, and in warm weather you can explore Central Park and the High Line in Chelsea.
Ready to take your baby on their first international foray, but not up to the idea of a long trans-Atlantic or trans-Pacific flight? Canada has got you covered. This place has everything from historic forts to cosmopolitan cities and gorgeous natural beauty, so get ready to pick your own adventure. One recommendation? Visit Quebec.
Quebec provides a taste of European travel without having to leave North America. With rich French heritage and culture, gorgeous cities and buildings that are hundreds of years old, you will really feel somewhere foreign. The province hosts over 400 festivals a year, so there is always something going on to keep you entertained.
What other destinations are great for young families?
