4 Ways Travel Insurance Can Help That You Might Not Know

Travel insurance is vital before taking any trip, and it is something that I strongly recommend. In fact, I believe that it is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones while venturing around the globe.

Some people opt out of travel insurance thinking that it only covers illness while traveling. However, travel insurance covers much more than people. In truth, getting the right coverage protects almost every aspect of your trip.

Whether you are going on a family road trip, a casual beach getaway, or skiing in the Alps, there is an insurance plan that is perfect for you.

Let’s explore four ways travel insurance can help cover a wide range of potentialities.

Please note, these are general reviews. The details of each insurance plan can vary. It's important to understand what you are purchasing before you buy, and if you have any questions, a quick call or chat with RoamRight can help clear them up!

Lost Bags

Many travelers have experienced the massive headache of lost baggage. This can be a nightmare especially if you are transporting valuable items. However, travel insurance takes away all those fears. It protects your luggage and its contents for the duration of the trip. This keeps your important items safe even when they are out of your care.

Some airlines offer baggage insurance, but many times their coverage is limited. Getting baggage coverage through a travel insurance company covers your precious items much more extensively. Most baggage insurance policies cover stolen and damaged checked and carry-on luggage and can even cover passports and credit cards.

This is much more extensive than the normal airline protection that only covers checked luggage. Be aware, airline insurance does not include hand luggage at all. Having baggage insurance is always a smart idea, but even more so when you are traveling with electronics, jewelry, watches, and sporting equipment.

Trip Disruption

Is there anything more frustrating while traveling than having your trip interrupted?

There are a variety of ways that your trip can be interrupted including accidents, illness, and weather - to name just a few. Circumstances occur that are out of our hands, and things go awry forcing us to cut our travels short. In these cases, travel insurance covers those unexpected costs in the unfortunate case that your trip ends abruptly.

With this insurance, you are reimbursed for the nonrefundable expenses of your travels that were not completed. It can also reimburse you for your flights home.

Rental Car

I believe that driving through a country gives people a unique encounter and deeper appreciation of everything the country truly has to offer. Renting a car to do a little road tripping is always a fun and exciting experience. Obtaining insurance for such an adventure is a no-brainier but many people make the mistake of buying it through an auto insurance provider. This can be quite expensive.

Purchasing rental car insurance with your travel insurance is much cheaper and covers damage to the car just as well, but goes one step further. It also covers financial loss if the car is damaged or stolen. Plus, it covers the price of repairs and a replacement vehicle if necessary and even the fees tacked on by the car dealer.

No doubt, if you will be driving on your trip, it is just makes sense to get rental car insurance to protect your wallet in case anything major happens.

Sports Insurance

For adventure and sports addicts, it is also important that you get the appropriate sports insurance coverage. This insurance has a lot more coverage and protection for those seeking the thrill of high-risk activities as they travel on the road from one adventure to another.

Exciting activities like scuba diving, parachuting, snowboarding, and mountaineering are amazing, but of course, they are also full of risk. Many of these undertakings are not covered by basic travel insurance plans due to the expensive equipment and high risk involved.

Sports insurance, often called adventure insurance, protects you in all your heart-pounding, adrenaline-surging activities. It even covers your equipment and accessories, etc.if they are damaged in certain circumstances.

As you can see, travel insurance offers a wide range of coverage. It helps keep travelers, baggage, and equipment safe. It also helps protect your wallet from extra fees; money lost from trip interruption; and lost, stolen, or damaged items.

As a seasoned traveler, I believe it is always wise to blanket as many things as possible with protection.

While we hope you never have to use your insurance, it is good to know that it is available and ready to save you both money and hassle.

Enjoy your trip to the fullest knowing that you are prepared for any circumstance. So come along. The world is waiting. Let the travels begin.
