Summer is here and its time to start deciding how to stay cool during the hottest months of the year. Originally known as the Del Mar Fair, the San Diego County Fair began as an agricultural fair in 1880. While it originally moved from place to place, it became a permanent fixture of the Del Mar Fairgrounds when they opened in 1936. Today, the San Diego County Fair offers a wide array of attractions, animals, rides, games, food and drink, school programs, horse races, and car shows. With the 2015 theme being planes and aircrafts, this year's fair is sure to be one that will be remembered for ages. Plus, San Diego's weather is mild year around so its an excellent choice for a summer visit.
Summer solstice marks the longest day of the year and in Alaska it is the day of the Anchorage Downtown Summer Solstice Celebration. This annual event is a free festival that is held for charity and provides a wide variety of activities, attractions, and events. With professional skateboarders to obstacle courses, food and drink, contests, roller-skating, races, and live music and performances, the Summer Solstice Celebration is a great place to get away and enjoy some end of summer fun in this cool Alaskan city.
Presented by the city of Chicago, the Chicago Air & Water Show is not only free, but it is the largest show of its kind since its founding in 1959. Situated with its focal point at North Avenue Beach of Lake Michigan, the show can be seen from Fullerton to Oak Street, all along the lakefront. As Chicago's 2nd most popular festival, they showcase a wide array of daredevil pilots, flying teams, parachute teams, formation jets, water-skiing, and boat-jumping. You can relax along the lakefront during the show with a cool drink or even take a dip in Lake Michigan to cool off during the heat of the day.
Drenched 5K is an annual summer event in various locations each year, bringing summer fun to everyone around. Starting with a 5 kilometer running or walking trail, those who reach the finish line are rewarded with the summer drenching of a lifetime. After the race, everyone comes together for the main event, the ultimate summer water party. With plenty of water balloons, water guns, water slides, cold refreshments, foam stations, fire hoses, plus music and dance, Drenched 5K is the ultimate event to help keep cool this summer while still staying active.
For one of the best adult summer parties, the Rehab Pool Party at the Hard Rock Hotel & Resort in sunny Las Vegas is the event to see and be seen at. The party starts in May and continues every weekend featuring an amazing pool party that is complete with DJ shows and live performances.
