Five Things To Do In Sacramento, California

Often overshadowed by its more popular neighbors, Sacramento is not just the capital city of California, but an ideal spot to consider for your next vacation. The city’s budget-friendly lodging options and central location allow for easy day trips to slightly more popular spots like Lake Tahoe or San Francisco.

Unsure what else there is to do in Sacramento besides visit the State Capitol? Here’s a look at a few of the numerous attractions that await visitors to what many refer to as “the city of trees.”

Visit Old Sacramento

Old Sacramento is a key spot for locals and tourists alike. There are riverfront restaurants, bars, and unique shops that make it one of the most popular areas to visit in the region. Old Sacramento is the oldest part of town and tells the tale of Sacramento’s history. There are historical – and even ghost – tours you can take.

Embrace the Outdoors

One of the best attributes of the greater Sacramento area is its proximity to everything and anything outdoorsy. From hiking and biking to just having a leisurely picnic in one of the countless well-manicured parks, Sacramento is an ideal spot for those who love the outdoors. It can get fairly warm during the summer months, but those looking for snow during the winter won’t have to drive too far outside the city itself.

Get Wet in Sacramento’s Rivers

Sacramento’s rivers deserve a special mention, as spending time on the river is a big part of life in this area. From fishing and rafting to boating and swimming, Sacramento residents make the most of the area’s plentiful rivers and nearby lakes.

Eat Your Way Through Apple Hill

If you decide to visit the Sacramento area in the fall, be sure to schedule a day at Apple Hill. Here you can visit various apple farms and enjoy everything from homemade apple cider to apple milkshakes. If your travel plans won’t allow for a fall visit, check the Apple Hill Growers website as a few orchards are open year round.

Go Wine Tasting

While Napa is only about an hour’s drive away, there is no need to leave the greater Sacramento area to try some incredible wine. Head south to the small town of Clarksburg where you can visit a handful of local vineyards and tasting rooms or head to one of the many wine counties that flank Sacramento, like Northern Sierra, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Lodi, Yolo or Placer.
