Babymoon may be a silly word but the concept is pretty great: one last romantic couple's getaway for you and your partner before you take on the life-altering responsibility of raising (and hopefully traveling with) a baby.
You'll want to choose your destination carefully based on your interests, the time of year and how far along you are in your pregnancy. While there are plenty of great babymoon destinations abroad, many choose to stick closer to home to save money and vacation time. Luckily there are a lot of great destinations within the US for a fabulous babymoon. Here are some suggestions:
If you like your vacations to feature world class cities with a dash of nature thrown in, Seattle is the perfect match. Come during the bright sunny summer or golden autumn and enjoy everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer. You can stay in town and spend your days browsing Pike Place Market, brunching in Belltown or exploring small boutiques in Fremont. Yes, you'll have to take a pass on the microbrewery scene this tripe, but there is plenty of farm to table (or ocean to table) dining and terrific coffee to take advantage of.
Then, head outside the city for hiking and great expanses of nature. Rent a car and head in pretty much any direction for beautiful scenery. Salish Lodge and Resort perched over Snowqualmie Falls is one great option for stunning scenery in a relaxing location.
If you have your heart set on a relaxing beach vacation, consider taking the leap over to Hawaii. Yes, the flight is long, especially from the East Coast, but you won't find anywhere else in the United States with such stunning beaches, tropical weather, and laid back culture. In Hawaii you can lay by the rolling ocean with a pile of shaved ice and just relax in a way you probably won't be able to for the next 18 years.
Not sure which island to choose? Oahu has the bigger cities, while the Big Island and Kauai are less populated and more centered on nature. Maui is a nice mix of development and untouched beauty. All of them have fabulous beaches and resorts to relax in.
A sophisticated city break full of culture and fine dining is a very grown-up way to celebrate your impending parenthood. Chicago is an amazing city of multicultural neighborhoods, Michelin-rated restaurants and world-class museums.
To make the most of your stay, book a nice hotel Downtown and explore iconic landmarks along the Magnificent Mile as well as Grant Park and the Field Museum. Eat at some of the best restaurants in the country, or go full-pregnant and just order a large deep dish pizza in your room.
Charleston is one of the most romantic cities in the country, which makes it a perfect spot to rekindle some romance before the long sleepless nights of early babyhood begin. You can take a romantic carriage ride or snuggle up close on an evening ghost tour. Indulge heavy pregnancy cravings with some authentic southern food.
Looking for somewhere toasty warm but also free from mosquitos? Arizona has got you covered. Even in the heart of winter Arizona is warmer and dryer than most of the country.
If your idea of fun is spas and golf, head to Scottsdale. If you prefer food and culture, Tucson has got your covered. If you're into the great outdoors, head to the red rocks of Sedona, where you can hike, bike and more.
Have you taken a babymoon? Where did you go?
