Travel medical insurance outside the United States is known as tourist health insurance. There are two main differences between tourist health insurance and standard health insurance:
- Tourist health insurance plans are generally offered at a lower cost and for a shorter term – lasting only for the duration of the trip.
- Tourist health insurance can provide coverage for medical claims incurred almost anywhere in the world. This is a feature that is generally not available through Medicare or Medicaid or most standard health insurance policies.
