Luxury Lodging in Honduras: Las Verandas

Roatan, located between the islands of Utila and Guanaja, is the largest of Honduras' Bay Islands

Just 30 miles off the coast of Honduras lies Roatan, an island renowned for its scuba diving. Roatan is situated along the world's second largest coral reef and is the largest of the Bay Islands.

Many visitors choose to stay in Roatan's popular West End, an area with a higher concentration of bars, restaurants, and shops. However, you're likely to find more backpacker and budget travel lodging options here as well. If you're looking for a luxurious getaway in Roatan, consider Las Verandas in Pristine Bay.

Las Verandas is located about 15 minutes from the airport in the ultra-posh Pristine Bay development. Pristine Bay encompasses over 400 acres and includes the Black Pearl Golf Course, Roatan's first and only golf facility. Black Pearl was designed by Pete Dye and is a championship 18 hole, par 72, 7,200-yard course.

Pristine Bay is an exclusive community within Roatan, and therefore does not provide easy access by foot to the main tourist areas outside the community. There are a few notable places nearby, but for the most part, you will need to coordinate transportation through Las Verandas or rent a car. The benefit to this seclusion is the exclusivity. You won't feel the least bit unsafe and the beaches are very private, which beats staying somewhere in town where you may find yourself wrangling for a good spot to sunbathe.

Accommodations at Las Verandas range from ocean view rooms to luxurious villas. The villas are absolutely worth the splurge, with a range of high-end amenities and private infinity-edge plunge pools available in most units. The villas are quite comfortable and those with the private pools offer privacy without compromising the views.

Guests of Las Verandas have a wealth of activities on their doorstep. Pristine Bay has an accredited dive shop on property that can schedule dive, snorkel, and fishing tours. Dive and snorkel sites are just a short boat ride away, including a wreck you can snorkel! The dive shop or Las Verandas can arrange for transportation via golf cart to the dive shop so you don't have to worry about anything.

There is no shortage of incredible dining options throughout Roatan, but be sure to allot some night(s) for dinner at Las Verandas. Las Pergolas offers an exciting mix of Caribbean/American fusion cuisine in a stunning setting. Look for culinary events and specials throughout the year. The menu is varied and changes often, so even if you're staying for several days or even weeks, you won't tire of the food.

Las Verandas will have its own spa center later in 2015, so in the meantime, guests can schedule spa services through La Pina Spa and Wellness Center. La Pina is located at the neighboring Clarion Hotel.

Romance definitely springs to mind at Las Verandas. Whether you're looking for the ideal spot for a destination wedding or for your honeymoon, you won't be disappointed here. The grounds are ideal for a wedding and the private villas with plunge pools make for the perfect honeymoon suite. You'll have plenty of privacy without sacrificing access to amenities.

Roatan is quickly rising among the world's tropical vacation destinations. Whether you're looking for a diving adventure, a golf holiday, or a quiet romantic getaway, Las Verandas should be at the top of the list for luxury accommodations on your Roatan holiday.

Where is your favorite tropical escape?
