How To Cross The US Without Breaking The Bank

Train Travel

America, the third largest country in the world, is full of exciting adventures and scenic landscapes. America is so vast that they are multiple ways to travel, each appealing to a unique travel style. With a little planning, you can find the perfect way to travel America that fits your own style and at the same time fits your budget.

Touring a vast country like America isn't as pricey as you might think. Many of the modes featured in this article are affordable and shatter the myth that you need to save a lot of money before heading out on an adventure.

Amtrak

Train travel is not the first thought that comes to one's mind when thinking about traveling across America. However, the US Amtrak system offers passes to fit specific needs with over 500 destinations. You can choose from 15, 30, or 45 day passes with corresponding segments.

Although the train is not the fastest way to travel across America, it stops in towns and cities off the beaten track and allows you to see the countryside. For people traveling across many states within a few months, Amtrak is a budget-friendly option.

Greyhound

This bus line is the largest intercity bus that goes coast to coast. Greyhound serves 3,800 destinations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. If you think riding a bus is inconvenient, think again. Each bus is equipped with extra legroom and is fully air-conditioned. The buses also have power outlets and free Wi-Fi.

Megabus

This UK-based bus company has extended their services to the United States and Canada with daily trips that seem too good to be true. Although they have a modern bus fleet, it does not have the current conveniences as Greyhound. However, Megabus is cheap. If you book early, you can get a ticket for as little as one dollar. Keep in mind that it is not as easy to navigate as other bus companies and currently only servicing 34 states.

Budget Airlines

Budget airlines are extremely affordable when compared to mainstream companies. If you book your tickets at least a month in advance, you have a good chance of getting to your destination for under a hundred dollars. While there are many options in the United States, JetBlue, West Jet, and Southwest are popular choices. One downside is that most of these airlines only fly to major cities.

Drive Yourself

America is a country known for its epic road trips, and driving yourself across the country is not only easy but also seen as a rite of passage. You could opt to drive your own car or a rental. If you have the stamina for long drives and a sturdy car that can handle hundreds of miles, you can start mapping out your trip. Driving gives the freedom of being on the open road and allows you to explore all your chosen sights at your own pace.

Final Stop

Traveling to a new place allows you to relax and take a break from the stress of everyday life. Most would equate traveling with new experiences and a chance to meet people from all walks of life. Aside from the adventures of going to strange new places and discovering the unknown, it allows you to appreciate the marvels of nature as well.

With all these options, traveling through America has never been easier and more affordable. Each of these means of transport has different characteristics and can be combined together to get you anywhere you desire to go. With all that America has to offer, now is the perfect time to plan your next vacation. Do not forget; always make your safety a priority whenever you travel.
